About Norling House (Norbulingka Institute)
Norling House is the guesthouse of the Norbulingka Institute, the centre for Tibetan arts and crafts in Sidhpur, below Dharamshala. It sits within the institute's gardens, among water channels, small bridges and shady trees, and staying here means you can wander the grounds early in the morning or after the day visitors have left. Each room is themed around a different animal from Tibetan mythology, and the furniture and paintings were made in Norbulingka's own workshops.
It is a calm, unusual base for travellers interested in Tibetan culture, art and Buddhism, and for anyone who would rather be in green, quiet surroundings than in the bustle of McLeod Ganj. The institute's workshops, temple, museum and cafe are on the doorstep, and the Gyuto Monastery is a short drive away. You will need a taxi to reach McLeod Ganj and the main Dharamshala market.
