Overview
**Short answer:** Pulga is a village at about 2,210 m in the upper Parvati Valley, about 3 km from Barshaini, the road end. The walk crosses the Parvati River and takes 30 minutes to an hour each way. Many visitors walk to Pulga on their own, and the path is easy to follow. If you would like a local guide for the village, the Fairy Forest and nearby Kalga, our partner offers one for ₹1,200 per person. ## Pulga village walk: quick facts | | | |---|---| | Start | Barshaini, road end of the Parvati Valley | | Distance | About 3 km each way | | Time | 30 minutes to 1 hour each way | | Altitude | Pulga about 2,210 m | | Difficulty | Easy | | Guide | Optional, ₹1,200 per person | | Best season | April to June, September to November | ## Do you need a guide for Pulga? No. Pulga is one of the easiest walks in the Parvati Valley, and plenty of people go self-guided: from Barshaini follow the signboard for Pulga, cross the bridge over the Parvati near the dam and walk up to the village. A guide is useful if you want to understand village life, find the quieter paths through the Fairy Forest, or link Pulga with Kalga and Tulga without getting lost on the side trails. ## What is the Fairy Forest in Pulga? It is the dense deodar forest around Pulga that locals call the Fairy Forest. Tall cedars, moss and filtered light make it a favourite short walk. Treat it as a village forest: no fires, no litter, no music. ## How do you get to Barshaini? By road via Bhuntar, Kasol and Manikaran; buses run from Kullu to Barshaini. Coming from Dharamshala, the drive goes via Mandi; see the [Dharamshala to Manali road guide](/blog/dharamshala-to-manali) and book a [taxi](/taxi). ## When is the best time to walk to Pulga? April to June and September to November. Monsoon rain in July and August makes the road to Barshaini unreliable. In winter there is snow and many guest houses close. ## Village etiquette Pulga is a working village. Ask before photographing people or homes, keep to the paths through orchards, and carry your rubbish back to Barshaini. Cannabis is illegal in India under the NDPS Act, 1985; we never arrange it. From the same road end you can walk to Tosh: see the [Tosh Valley trek](/treks/tosh-valley-trek). For a harder route, try the [Kasol to Malana trek](/treks/kasol-to-malana-trek), or browse all [guided treks](/treks).
